An Eid Morning with MPV-DC
Mark the end of Ramadan by joining Muslims for Progressive Values' DC chapter at Eid al Fitr prayers on the morning of Friday, June 15 at 10:00 AM at the Tenleytown-Friendship Neighborhood library. The library is located right outside the Tenleytown-AU metro station on the red line. There are elevators at the Tenleytown-AU metro station as well as inside the library. Prayer will take place in the large meeting room on the second floor. Refreshments will be served. Muslims for Progressive Values aims to create inclusive spaces of worship that are welcoming to all - regardless of a person’s gender identity, or sexual orientation. We welcome our partners, friends, and families to participate in prayer that holds great significance in our traditions and rituals. Prayer can be immensely powerful, healing, and nourishing. With these thoughts in mind, every person is invited to participate in the salaat (prayers). The following are our guidelines in creating inclusive spaces of worship: ● We pray in mixed congregation. Please stand wherever you feel most comfortable. People are welcome to pray side-by-side and next to one another, regardless of gender. We are one community. ● Ours is a gender-equal space and people of all gender identities are encouraged and welcome to lead prayer. Additionally, we encourage those who have not had the opportunity to lead in other spaces, to take advantage of those opportunities. We understand that every human being has spiritual agency. ● Ours is a non-denominational space. Folks are welcome and encouraged to lead according to the tradition of their sect, Sunni, Sufi, Shi’a or otherwise. This is part of how we come to know and experience the diversity in our community. ● We pray wearing whatever clothing as decided by the individual. As an inclusive community we do not judge each other. ● Whether you pray regularly or not, we invite you to this open and welcoming space. If it has been a while, you are welcome to join us. ******************************************* If you require accommodations, use English as a second language, or have specific dietary needs (if applicable), please contact: Maliha Khan at firstname.lastname@example.org or (703) 944-5992 by June 8, 2018.
