Feed 'Em Fridays: Free Minds Book Club
Feed ‘Em Fridays: Free Minds Book Club Friday, May 11 at 6:30 PM Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop is a local organization that provides books to teens and young adults currently incarcerated in Washington D.C. Free Minds uses books, creative writing, and peer support to awaken these young people to their own potential. Through creative expression, job readiness training, and violence prevention outreach, these young poets achieve their education and career goals and become powerful voices for change in the community. At our last event of the school year, we will make bookmarks to encourage these young adults and provide new paperbacks requested by Free Minds. Among the book titles we hope to purchase are 45 paperback copies of “Bullets into Bells: Poets and Citizens Respond to Gun Violence.” Dinner is on you. The Temple will provide the materials to make the bookmarks and will purchase some of the requested titles. Those families who make a donation may inscribe one book for every $10 donated to the Temple’s Social Action Fund. Contact: Cookie Mandell, firstname.lastname@example.org Cost: $12 per adult for Temple members; $15 per adult for non-Temple members; $6 per child for all children RSVP by May 9 Please email us if you need any accommodations in order to participate in this event.
